This 1970 Dodge Charger 500 was purchased by the seller in 2014 and subsequently refurbished, with work including installing a replacement, rebuilt, and modified 440ci V8 fitted with hydraulic roller rockers, a heat-treated hardened oil pump, and three dual-barrel carburetors. The engine is linked with an American Powertrain T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in blue with black stripes over charcoal vinyl, the car is equipped with a Riley MotorSports coilover suspension, a heavy-duty sway bar, Wilwood disc brakes with Hydroboost, 15″ Magnum 500 wheels, power steering, a 3″ exhaust, a RetroSound stereo, VintageAir air conditioning, and a pistol-grip shifter.
The seller states that the car was originally finished in B5 Blue, and car was repainted as part of the refurbishment that was completed in 2017 and also saw the replacement of damaged and rusted sheet metal. Features include a black rear stripe as well as flip-up headlamps, dual side mirrors, and a chrome rear bumper, window surrounds, and trim.
The 15″ Magnum 500 wheels measure 8″ in width up front and 10″ out back and are mounted with 275/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Pitting is noted on the rear wheels. The car is equipped with Flaming River power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and the braking system has been upgraded with Wilwood discs all around as well as a Hydroboost system sourced from Reilly MotorSports Suspension, who also provided four-wheel coilovers, an AlterKtion front K-member, and a Street-Lynx triangulated four-bar rear setup.
The cabin was reportedly overhauled by Legendary Auto Interiors with black vinyl over the high-back front buckets, rear bench, and door panels. Additions include a RetroSound stereo with auxiliary input as well as a rear defroster, three-speed windshield wipers, a pistol-grip shifter, and a VintageAir air-conditioning system. Sound deadening has been added beneath the replacement carpets.
The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel fronts gauges that were refurbished by Just Dashes and include a 150-mph speedometer, a Tic-Toc-Tac tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 335 miles, which represents the distance since the completion of the build. Total chassis mileage is unknown.
The replacement, modified 440ci V8 was installed under current ownership and was rebuilt by Performance Machine Specialties of Cleveland, Missouri, in 2015. Work included boring and honing the block, a valve job, a grind and balance of the crankshaft, and replacing the pistons, rings, bearings, camshaft and lifters, and valves. It is reportedly equipped with hydraulic roller rockers, a 1970-date-coded block, an Edelbrock intake manifold, a heat-treated hardened oil pump, Mickey Thompson valve covers, and three Holley dual-barrel carburetors. The under-hood fender tag is not present. Photos of the engine prior to installation, along with various casting marks, can be viewed in the gallery.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and a 3.91:1 limited-slip differential. The 3″ exhaust system includes tubular headers, a crossover pipe, and Flowmaster mufflers.
